Our 2014 Christmas Tournament was a great success and one of our mixed teams (Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn) were the winners!
Hosted in the upper hall in Prendener Str. and with trophies kindly provided by the Bunte Liga, we invited two guest teams (Marzahne Wölfe and Berliner Bolzer) as well as a team from the Bunte Liga (Muchas Maracas) to compete against three balanced teams formed from a mix of FCKP players (Pufenderfer, Fredersdofer and Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn).
After a round-robin group stage, Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn (F-L-J), captained by Gianluca, topped the group and went into the final to face Michas Maracas. Both teams finished on 10 points, but F-L-J pipped Muchas Maracas to top spot despite having equal points and the same goal difference due to having scored more goals (four to three).
Pufendorfer, captained by James, missed out on the final by one point, despite having the best goal difference and the most goals scored, largely thanks to their thrashing of Marzahne Wölfe in the first match. This meant they faced Marzahner Wölfe in the third place playoff, who managed 7 points.
Propping up the table were Fredersdorfer. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to win a match and were unlucky to finish on only two points. This set up the fifth place playoff against fifth placed Berliner Bolzer, who managed to collect four points from a win and a draw.
The fifth place playoff between Fredersdorfer and Berliner Bolzer couldn’t be decided after 12 minutes with both teams failing to convert their chances and the game went to penalties. Both goalkeepers (Bart and Natascha) saved on multiple occasions to make it a nervy finish. In the end, Berliner Bolzer came out on top in the shootout to claim fifth place.
The third place playoff, a repeat of the opening the first game for both teams, finished with the Wölfe getting revenge over Pufendorfer and winning the match 3-1 to claim third place.
The final didn’t take place due to Muchas Maracas being unable to play, leaving F-L-J worthy winners of the FCKP Christmas Tournament 2014!
The tournament was played in a great spirit of fair play (and without a referee!) with very few fouls.
