FCKP II | Matchday 2 | Review

15 May 2014

FCKPII had a good matchday today with James the unlikely hero, with the team winning two games and losing two (plus one win against a team that didn’t come).

We played the first match with only 6 players after two players pulled out late and two more arrived late. Luckily, Looney Toons were also only 6 so it turned out to be a fair game which both teams could have easily won. Unfortunately, we lost 1-0 as we were caught out short at the back after the other team spent most of the game sitting back in their own half and defending and letting us do all of the attacking (and of course running!).

We went into the second game also with only 6 players and went behind against a very good team, Berlin Haupstadkicker. Sandro and Phillip from the Buli Bären were both unable to play but they were still a good team and managed to take the lead against James who was unable to keep the shot out of goal. Deen and Nick arrived allowing us to play 6 players outfield so we were determined not to be defeated and went forward searching for goals. After a cross from the left that was flicked on by Alex, the ball fell for nicely for James to cooly slot away the equaliser – his first goal outdoor in the Bunte Liga 7-a-side league format! We were encouraged by the equaliser but were unfortunately put under a lot of pressure when in possession and lost the ball in our own half, leading to us conceding and going 2-1 behind, which is how the game ended. After two defeats but a really encouraging performance against a strong team, we went into the third game against Lambajuun with a lot of energy and optimism.

The game against the league leaders started pretty evenly but slowly we started to dominate and have some chances. The breakthrough came when we broke down the left of the pitch and had the advantage of 3 players against their two defenders as we ran towards their goal. A pass, originally intended for the middle, found its way through to James on the right, who took the bouncing ball on the half volley from around 15-20 metres out and the ball rocketed past the helpless keeper and put us into the lead. Despite being in sheer disbelief at the sight of seeing James score a wonder goal, we managed to hold into the lead and it finished 1-0.

Our final game against United Scorpions was a great match with two teams going for the win. Despite Alexander being denied a penalty despite being foiled by the keeper (it was probably a foul but not a penalty), he managed to score afterwards to mark his excellent debut with a goal. Everyone played well and we finished on a real high.

Players: Deen, Nick, James, Brian, Clement, Alex (Cuerpo), Alexander, Ezequiel (Bob)

Founded by CouchSurfers over ten years ago, the core values of the team have been inclusion and fair play from the very beginning. We started organising regular football meet-ups, where anyone could join and recruited new players for the team from these games.

We have been meeting up since summer 2008 to have regular games of football at the “Boltzplatz” in the Pufendorfstraße, which is also where the team name comes from.

On 21st January 2017 we founded the club “FC Kickers Pufendorfer Berlin e.V.” and on 18th April 2017 we were officially entitled by the German law to carry the name.
