It has been a decade now since we first met up at the famous Pufendorfstrasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain on that Sunday afternoon back in 2008 and five years later in 2013 this group founded their own football club. Today, five years later we have two reasons now to celebrate. The main act was of course to host a friendly game, so we did messaged the lads of Veteran Flambeu FC, an African-Berlin based amateur team and they came by to play us. We could not claim full backup of our team as its holiday season and most f the players are away or take the time to recover from their injuries and be ready for the start of the season. But we managed to invite some guest players and so we went into the game on a very hot Saturday at noon on top of our Metro pitch. The opponent started very fresh and pressed right away with good fast balls towards their strikers who gave us a very hard time. I took just about 5 minutes and Tolga in goal was beaten with a perfect curved ball into the top right corner. Goal 2, 3, and 4 followed on an identical procedure with fast balls up front and a long shot into the bottom corner. That happened in the first 20 minutes. After Pablo came finally on the pitch and did his duty in as center back the harmony in our 4-men defense was established. The 4-0 was the half time score and from our side was not much to add on the highlight sheet except Ezequiels 100% chance after he curved around the goalie but the angle to the goal was to steep and the ball missed its target.
Part two of the game was a much better start for us, we controlled the game for 10-15 minutes and had two blocked shots plus a free kick by Kyle which ended up to central towards goal and was no problem for the goalie of Flambeu. About 60 minutes into the game a corner gave us some trouble and Martin managed somehow to score an own goal after a crossing shot. The African avalanche was on its way again. In addition to that our power lacked a lot, Flambeu was just more agile and more fit! The counter attacks on the wings gave us a hard time and made it easy for the opponent to score up to 9 goals in total that afternoon. At the end we were somehow happy it was over but also happy to play together again and meet up!
